IV sedation is the most commonly used option for oral surgery procedures at our practice, and for good reason. It allows the surgical team to adjust the level of sedation in real time, ensuring you remain comfortable throughout — even during longer or more involved procedures. Most patients are grateful to wake up with no recollection of the experience.
Throughout the procedure, your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels are continuously monitored. Our surgeons are fully trained in sedation administration and patient safety protocols, so you are never without experienced oversight from the moment you arrive.

Once the IV is placed, medication is administered gradually until the appropriate level of sedation is reached. You will be in a deeply relaxed state and largely unaware of the procedure taking place. Your vital signs are monitored continuously throughout, and the sedation can be adjusted at any point. Most patients have no memory of the procedure once it’s complete.
Drowsiness, mild nausea, and some grogginess are the most frequently reported effects in the hours following sedation. These typically resolve within the same day. You will need someone to drive you home, and should plan to rest for the remainder of the day. Your care team will provide specific post-operative guidance based on the type of sedation used.
