Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

The eyes are often the first thing people notice, and they are usually the first places where age, fatigue, and genetics make themselves known. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, addresses the dropping skin and puffiness that can make you look older than you feel.

Types of Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty, or Eyelid Surgery, can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It just depends on your concerns and goals.

  • Upper Eyelid Surgery: Removes excess skin and fat that causes a hooded appearance in the eyes. In some cases, this sagging skin can begin to affect peripheral vision — making upper blepharoplasty both a cosmetic and functional procedure.
  • Lower Eyelid Surgery: Targets under-eye bags, puffiness, and the loose skin that develops beneath the eyes over time. The result is a smoother, more rested contour under the eye.
  • Combination Blepharoplasty: Addresses both areas in a single procedure for patients whose concerns span the full eye region.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Your consultation begins with a thorough assessment of your eyelid anatomy, your medical history, and your goals. From there, your oral surgeon will outline a personalized treatment plan and walk you through your anesthesia options.

Incisions are placed within the natural creases of the eyelid, keeping any scarring minimal and well-concealed. Most procedures take one to two hours. Patients go home the same day to rest and recover.

The Benefits of Blepharoplasty

For many patients, eyelid surgery does more than improve appearance — it changes how they experience their reflection.

Common outcomes include:

  • A refreshed look that showcases the energy you actually feel
  • Reduced heaviness or strain caused by excess skin over the upper eyelid
  • Smoother under-eye contours and less visible puffiness
  • In upper eyelid cases, improved peripheral vision

Results develop gradually as swelling resolves, with most patients seeing their full results within a few weeks.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Blepharoplasty is a fit for patients in good general health who are bothered by drooping upper eyelids, under-eye bags, or the overall heaviness the eye area can develop with age. It’s also worth considering if you’ve noticed your upper eyelid skin beginning to interfere with your line of sight.

A consultation with our oral surgeons will help clarify whether eyelid surgery, a brow lift, or a combination approach is the right path for your specific concerns. Schedule one today to get started.

Recovery and Aftercare

Most patients take one to two weeks off from work and social activities after blepharoplasty. Swelling and bruising are expected during this period, and cold compresses along with prescribed ointments will help manage both. Most patients are comfortable enough for light daily activity within a week, and the majority of visible healing happens within two weeks.

Your oral surgeon will provide detailed post-op instructions and be available to answer any questions that come up during recovery. Full results, including final scar maturation, develop over the following weeks.

Common Questions

Incisions are placed in the natural creases of the eyelid, which makes them very difficult to detect once healed. Most patients find their scars fade significantly within a few months and become nearly invisible over time.

Upper blepharoplasty can improve peripheral vision when excess skin is drooping far enough to obstruct it. During your consultation, your oral surgeon will evaluate whether this applies to your case and what improvement you might expect.

Eyelid surgery produces long-lasting results, though the natural aging process continues. Most patients enjoy their outcome for many years before any additional correction might be considered. Many never need a follow-up procedure at all.
